Today, I attended an IHRIM meeting that was held at UPS in Atlanta. For those of you that don’t know, IHRIM is the International Association for Human Resource Information Management. A representative from the Aberdeen Group gave a great presentation on the topic of Human Resources Onboarding. According to the speaker, some companies are saving up to $1,100 per employee on paperless onboarding solutions. He also emphasized the importance of socialization within your onboarding solution. While this strategy will certainly help your new employee get acclimated with the culture, a sure way to impress your new hire is to make sure that the onboarding paperwork is simple and that everything is ready for your new hire on the first day of work. Think for a moment of your first day of employment with your company. Was it a positive experience? Was your computer configured correctly? Did you have an email address? Did you have a badge or a name plate? Was your cubicle or office prepared and clean? If not, you need to consider an onboarding solution. At Emerald Software, we pride ourselves on creating a pleasant experience for your new employees by completely automating all new hire forms and enforcing business rules to eliminate errors. Through our AllegroHR suite, we provide a Universal Onboarding package that will gather all of your new hire’s information and seamlessly integrate that data to your HRMS. With AllegroHR, we also integrate to many of the well known ATS systems. Our motto at Emerald is “enter once and populate many.” From pre-populating the onboarding system with the data from your ATS, to populating the I-9, W-4, and state tax forms; we do it all.
Lastly, according to Aberdeen, some of the main reasons that corporations do not have an onboarding solution are as follows:
1. There is no sense of urgency with Sr. Management to do so.
2. A lack of understanding pertaining to onboarding.
Wow! If saving $1,100 per employee doesn’t get upper management excited, I don’t know what will. In the industry, we just need to do a better job of educating and the excitement will follow.
